STRIVE was started by Rotarian Don Monney in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, in 1993. STRIVE stands for, ‘Students Taking Renewed Interest in the Value of Education’. The program is designed to help under-achieving students improve their Grades, Attitude, Attendance and Participation (GAAP).
Terry Mohler and the Maumee Rotary Club started the first STRIVE program in District 6600. Today there are over 30 Rotary sponsored STRIVE programs in District 6600.
The Sylvania STRIVE program is in its fourth year at the Northview and Southview High Schools. This year we have doubled the size of the program to include 2 senior and 2 junior classes, and will enroll approximately 80 students. A Rotarian serves as a coordinator for each class, and each school has an advisor. Students are selected through recommendation of their guidance counselors. Participation is voluntary.
